Keep your Lifeline benefit: recertification

Understand a recertification notice, prepare the next action and keep official deadlines in view.

Your starting point

USAC or the applicable state checks continuing qualification each year. If automatic confirmation is possible, no response may be needed; if you receive a recertification request, follow that notice.

No application, account change or eligibility decision takes place on this website. Official resources appear at the end of the page.

Start with the notice you actually received

USAC says consumers asked to recertify have 60 days to respond. Check the deadline on your notice and use the official process it identifies. Oregon and Texas use state processes. This page does not create or extend a deadline.

Keep the notice privately with your records. A checklist on this website is only a preparation aid; checking a box here does not submit a recertification or update a government record.

Separate preparation from submission

Review what the notice requests before gathering records. Use the document checklist to organize your preparation, then use the official process for submission. Avoid placing identity documents or account details into general website forms that are not part of that process.

If the request is unclear, prepare a short question for the official support channel. We cannot inspect a private notice, verify a benefit or decide which document will be accepted.

Choose the official method that applies

USAC describes online, mail and an eligible phone option for recertification. The phone option is available when proof documentation is not required. Read the current instructions for your case rather than assuming that every method is interchangeable.

Official recertification resources are grouped below. Keep copies of your own correspondence and any confirmation through your usual private recordkeeping process.

If a deadline or service issue is involved

USAC warns that missing a required response can end the benefit and affect service or the bill. If you have already lost the discount or have a service issue, contact the relevant organization rather than treating this page as a reinstatement request.

The status-help and existing-service pages can help you distinguish a program question from a carrier question. They do not override the notice, reserve continued service or guarantee reinstatement.
