Laptop and computer options: compare real resources

Explore computer-assistance and refurbished-device resources, then check eligibility, costs, specifications and current availability with the organization.

Start with your needs

These are separate computer resources, not a promise that a Lifeline phone application includes a laptop. This website cannot award a computer, reserve inventory or decide an organization’s eligibility.

PCs for People: check the current requirements

PCs for People offers refurbished computers for eligible customers. Its current eligibility page describes assistance-program or income documentation and photo identification requirements. It explicitly notes that discounted-computer eligibility does not mean a laptop will be provided at no cost.

Use the organization’s own eligibility information at the end of this page before preparing a purchase. Do not rely on an old price screenshot or assume every location has the same inventory. This website does not collect the documents required by PCs for People.

Human-I-T: requests and purchases are different

Human-I-T provides a route to request computer or internet assistance and also offers devices for purchase. Its assistance page explains that requests are reviewed and selection depends on need and current availability; a request does not guarantee a device.

Choose the route that matches your situation. Read the organization’s current instructions before sharing your story or private records. We do not submit a request, contact the organization or receive an application result on your behalf.

Match the computer to your task

Make a short list of what the computer must run: school software, video calls, job-search tools, document work or other applications. Ask about the exact operating system, memory, storage, battery condition, charger and software support for the device being offered.

Confirm any warranty, return window, shipping charge and other costs directly with the seller or organization. A refurbished laptop can suit some needs, but a brand name alone does not tell you whether a particular unit fits your requirements.

Phone service and computer help are separate

If you also need lower-cost phone or internet service, read the Lifeline information separately from the computer offer. Check the terms of each resource instead of assuming that qualifying for one automatically provides the other.

The device-options page lets you compare iPhone, Android, tablet and laptop paths. If a tablet would solve the task, review that option as well. When you reach the resources below, use the original organization’s information for the final decision.
